Peel Clear vs Colored PPF
Peel Clear vs colored PPF for a color change: how a sprayed peelable finish compares to a printed color film, and how to choose the right one.
A fair, side-by-side look at Peel Clear, the sprayed-on peelable system Royal Armor applies in Scottsdale, and ceramic coating, the thin glass-like layer: what each does to your paint, and which fits your vehicle.

Peel Clear and ceramic coating both live on top of your factory paint, but they are built for different jobs. Ceramic coating is a thin, glass-like chemical layer that bonds to the clear coat for gloss and easy cleaning. Peel Clear is a sprayed-on, peelable paint system that adds a thicker, fully removable layer and can even change your color. Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, so this is a straight comparison to help you pick the right one for your vehicle.
Peel Clear. A spray-applied peelable paint system. A waterborne base coat and a self-healing top coat are sprayed in a controlled booth, then cure into a smooth, flexible layer that is sandable and buffable and peels away by hand with no adhesive and no residue, per Peel Clear’s published specs. It can go on clear for protection or in one of 267 colors for a full color change.
Ceramic coating. A liquid polymer, usually silica based, that is wiped on and bonds chemically to the clear coat. It cures into a very thin, hard, hydrophobic layer that beads water and makes the paint easier to wash. It is measured in microns and is not designed to absorb rock chips.
| What to compare | Peel Clear | Ceramic coating |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Sprayed peelable paint layer | Thin chemical coating on the clear coat |
| How it is applied | Sprayed in a controlled booth | Wiped on and buffed by hand |
| Thickness | A true sprayed film you can peel | Only microns thin |
| Water behavior | Sheds water, easy to rinse | Strongly hydrophobic, water beads and rolls |
| Chip protection | The layer takes the abuse, not your paint | Little to none, it is too thin |
| Color change | Clear or 267 colors, gloss, satin or matte | None, it is clear only |
| Removal | Peels off by hand, no residue | Wears off or is polished away over time |
| Self-healing | Self-healing top coat | Not self-healing |
| Warranty | 20-year peelability warranty | Set by the product and installer |
We will be fair to ceramic. A quality ceramic coating gives an impressive depth of gloss and a slick, hydrophobic surface that makes washing quick and helps water, dust and light contaminants slide off. It adds almost no thickness, so the shape and reflectivity of your paint stay exactly as they are, and it resists chemical staining and UV dulling well. If your only goal is shine and easier maintenance on paint you want to show off as is, ceramic does that job well.
Peel Clear plays a different role, all per Peel Clear’s published specs:
Choose ceramic coating if your factory paint is already the way you want it and you mainly want deeper gloss and easier washing, keeping in mind that it is thin and will not stop rock chips. Choose Peel Clear if you want a thicker, fully reversible layer over your paint, the option to change your color, and the ability to peel it all off whenever you want a fresh look. Since Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, we will tell you honestly whether it fits your goals.

QUESTIONS
Straight answers about Peel Clear, the process, and what to expect from Royal Armor.
No. Ceramic coating is a very thin chemical layer that bonds to your clear coat for gloss and water beading. Peel Clear is a sprayed, peelable paint layer with real thickness that comes off by hand and can also change your color.
Not meaningfully. Ceramic is only microns thick, so it helps with gloss, chemical resistance and easy cleaning, but it is not designed to absorb rock chips or road debris.
We assess the vehicle first. Surface prep matters for adhesion, so we check the existing coating and finish before spraying and give you a straight answer at your consultation.
No. Royal Armor installs Peel Clear only, a spray-applied peelable paint system. We do not apply ceramic coating, paint protection film, window tint or vinyl wraps.
Peel Clear has a self-healing top coat, sheds water, and can be finished in gloss. Ceramic is engineered specifically for extreme hydrophobic beading, so the two feel different up close.
