Peel Clear vs Ceramic Coating
Peel Clear vs ceramic coating: how a thick, reversible sprayed layer compares to a thin, glossy chemical coating, and how to choose the right one.
A fair, side-by-side look at Peel Clear, the professional sprayed peelable system Royal Armor applies in Scottsdale, and Plasti Dip, the DIY peelable spray: how each goes on, how long each lasts, and which fits your vehicle.
Last updated: September 2026.
Peel Clear and Plasti Dip are both peelable, and that is where the similarity ends. Plasti Dip is a rubberized coating sold in cans and DIY kits for a temporary, removable finish on a budget. Peel Clear is a professional, spray-applied peelable paint system installed in a controlled booth, with a self-healing top coat and hundreds of color options. Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, so here is a straight comparison to help you choose.
Peel Clear. A spray-applied peelable paint system. A waterborne base coat and a self-healing top coat are sprayed in a controlled booth and cure into a smooth, flexible layer that is sandable and buffable and peels off by hand with no adhesive and no residue, per Peel Clear’s published specs. It goes on clear for protection or in one of 267 colors for a full color change.
Plasti Dip. An air-dry rubber coating, usually applied from aerosol cans or a DIY spray setup. It builds up in several light coats into a matte, grippy film that can later be peeled off. It is popular for budget projects and quick, reversible looks done at home.

We will be fair to Plasti Dip. It is inexpensive, widely available, and genuinely peelable, which makes it a low-commitment way to test a color or black out trim, wheels and badges at home. For a short-term look, a weekend project, or small accent pieces, it does what it promises without a shop visit. If your goal is a cheap, temporary change you apply yourself, Plasti Dip is a reasonable starting point.
Peel Clear is a different class of product, all per Peel Clear’s published specs:
Choose Plasti Dip if you want the cheapest possible peelable option, you are covering small parts, and you are comfortable doing the work yourself and redoing it fairly often. Choose Peel Clear if you want a professional, durable, sprayed finish that looks like paint, holds up to the sun, and still peels off cleanly when you want a change. Since Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, we will give you an honest read on whether it fits your goals before you book.
