Peel Clear vs Ceramic Coating
Peel Clear vs ceramic coating: how a thick, reversible sprayed layer compares to a thin, glossy chemical coating, and how to choose the right one.
A fair, side-by-side look at Peel Clear, the sprayed-on peelable system Royal Armor applies in Scottsdale, versus paint protection film: how each goes on, how each comes off, and which fits your vehicle.
Last updated: September 2026.
Peel Clear and paint protection film (PPF) solve the same problem in two different ways. Peel Clear is a spray-applied, peelable coating that goes on like paint, with no seams and no adhesive, and it comes off by hand. PPF is a pre-cut, adhesive-backed film that is squeegeed onto each panel and has a proven track record for abrasion and rock-chip resistance. Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, so this guide is a straight, side-by-side look to help you choose the right one for your vehicle.
Peel Clear. A spray-applied peelable paint system. A waterborne base coat and a self-healing top coat are sprayed in a controlled booth, the same way automotive paint is applied. It cures into a smooth, flexible finish that is sandable and buffable, and it peels off by hand with no adhesive and no residue, per Peel Clear’s published specs.
Paint protection film. A clear, or sometimes colored, urethane film that is cut to fit each panel and applied with adhesive. Top-tier films include a self-healing top layer and are well known for strong abrasion and impact resistance. It is removed later with heat and adhesive remover.
| What to compare | Peel Clear | Paint protection film |
|---|---|---|
| How it is applied | Sprayed like paint in a controlled booth | Cut to fit and squeegeed onto each panel |
| Seams and edges | None, one continuous sprayed surface | Panel by panel, with edges and cut lines |
| Removal | Peels off by hand, no adhesive, no residue | Lifted with heat and adhesive remover |
| Color options | Clear or 267 colors, including pearls and color-shift | Usually clear; some films add color or finish |
| Abrasion resistance | Built for years of driving; the layer takes the hit, not your paint | Proven, well-documented abrasion and rock-chip resistance |
| Self-healing | Self-healing top coat | Available on premium films |
| Finish repair | Sandable and buffable once cured | Not sandable; replace the affected section |
| Warranty | 20-year peelability warranty | Set by the film brand, commonly up to 10 years |
We will be fair to film. Paint protection film has a long, well-documented track record for abrasion and rock-chip resistance, and premium films self-heal light swirls with heat. Because it is a physical film, it is a proven choice for high-impact zones like the front bumper, the leading edge of the hood and the mirrors. We will never tell you Peel Clear is tougher than film, because that is not a claim we make.
Peel Clear plays to a different set of strengths, all per Peel Clear’s published specs:
Choose paint protection film if your top priority is maximum abrasion resistance on high-impact panels and you want a physical film barrier. Choose Peel Clear if you want a seamless, sprayed-on finish with no edges, the option to change your color, and the ability to peel it all off cleanly whenever you want a change. Since Royal Armor sprays Peel Clear only, we will give you a straight answer about whether it fits your goals before you book.

QUESTIONS
Straight answers about Peel Clear, the process, and what to expect from Royal Armor.
No, that is not a claim we make. Paint protection film has a proven track record for abrasion and rock-chip resistance. Peel Clear competes on being seamless, fully reversible, and able to change your color, not on out-toughing film.
No. Royal Armor installs Peel Clear only, a spray-applied peelable paint system. We do not install paint protection film, ceramic coating, window tint or vinyl wraps.
Peel Clear is sprayed, so it covers curves, emblems and trim with no seams, edges or cut lines. It also peels off by hand with no adhesive, and the same system can change your color across 267 options.
Peel Clear bonds without adhesive and peels away by hand in large sheets, leaving your factory paint untouched with no residue. Paint protection film is removed with heat and adhesive remover instead.
Choose film if your priority is maximum abrasion resistance on high-impact panels. Choose Peel Clear if you want a seamless sprayed finish, a possible color change, and clean removal by hand. Since we spray Peel Clear only, we will tell you honestly whether it fits your goals.
