Peel Clear vs Ceramic Coating
Peel Clear vs ceramic coating: how a thick, reversible sprayed layer compares to a thin, glossy chemical coating, and how to choose the right one.
Sprayable paint protection is a liquid coating sprayed onto a vehicle like automotive paint, then peeled off by hand when you want it gone. Peel Clear is the leading example, and Royal Armor sprays it in a professional booth in Scottsdale.

Sprayable paint protection is a protective coating that is sprayed onto your vehicle like automotive paint instead of being cut and applied as a film. It bonds to the surface, cures into a smooth layer over your factory finish, and, in the case of a peelable system, comes off by hand when you want a change. Peel Clear is the leading peelable example, and it is the only system Royal Armor installs.
Most paint protection you have heard of is a film. Paint protection film and vinyl wrap both arrive as sheets that are cut to shape and squeegeed onto each panel, which leaves seams, edges and cut lines wherever two pieces meet.
Sprayable paint protection skips the film entirely. It is a liquid applied with spray equipment, the same way a body shop lays down paint, so it flows over curves, emblems and trim as one continuous layer. You will also see it called spray-on paint protection, liquid paint protection film, or peelable paint. When the system is peelable, that last name fits best: it protects like a coating and removes like a peel.
The vehicle is cleaned and every panel is masked. The coating is sprayed on with professional HVLP equipment in a controlled booth, then cured before the vehicle leaves. Because it is sprayed rather than laid down in sheets, there are no film edges and no seams, because there is no film. A quality sprayable system is engineered so that the finish can be sanded and buffed after it cures, so imperfections are corrected the same way they are on paint.
Peel Clear is a spray-applied peelable paint system, and it is the product Royal Armor is a Certified Peel Clear Installer for. Per Peel Clear’s published specs, it is a two-coat system: a waterborne base coat that lays a flawless foundation and makes clean removal possible, and a self-healing top coat that faces the world and resists UV, chemicals and road grime.
Once cured it is fully sandable and buffable, so the finish can be corrected like paint. It can go on clear to protect your existing color, or as a full color change from 267 colors: 165 RAL-matched solids, 85 pearls and iridescents, and 17 multi-tone color-shift finishes, in gloss, satin or matte. Peel Clear backs the system with a 20-year peelability warranty covering yellowing, peeling, cracking, fading and adhesion failure.
Here is how a sprayable peelable system compares to the two film-based options drivers usually weigh it against. This is about how each one behaves, not a claim that one beats the others on toughness.
| Attribute | Sprayable (Peel Clear) | Paint protection film | Vinyl wrap |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is applied | Sprayed on like paint in a booth | Cut film squeegeed onto panels | Cut vinyl squeegeed onto panels |
| Seams and edges | None; one continuous sprayed layer | Panel edges and cut lines | Panel seams and cut lines |
| Removal | Peels off by hand, no adhesive, no residue | Adhesive-backed, removal needs care | Adhesive-backed, removal needs care |
| Color options | Clear or full color, 267 colors | Mostly clear | Full color, many finishes |
| Finish correction | Sandable and buffable once cured | Not sandable | Not sandable |
| Self-healing top coat | Yes | Common on premium films | No |
Sprayable protection is not magic, and we will not oversell it. Paint protection film is a proven, well-known impact barrier, and if raw film thickness is the only thing you care about, that is a fair conversation to have. Peel Clear does not try to win on being tougher than film. It wins on being seamless, reversible and color-flexible: a sprayed finish with no cut lines, that peels off clean with no adhesive and no residue, and that can be resprayed in a new color whenever you want.
It is also not a basic dip coating. Peel Clear is engineered to cure into a smooth, paint-like finish that sands, buffs and self-heals, which is a different category of product than a hardware-store spray.
Royal Armor is a Scottsdale shop built entirely around Peel Clear. We spray it in a controlled booth off Greenway Road, in clear or in color, for drivers across the Scottsdale area, and we peel it away and respray it when you are ready for something new. Peel Clear is the only system we install, and it is all we do.
